The Summit

Crossthumb1 The SummitIn the Bible it reads in John 14:10 (KJV) “Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” It’s words vs. works. In the secular perspective it’s “actions speak louder than words.”

We’ve heard that a thousand times. How you act speaks volumes to who you are and what you represent. I have always believed the Bible is the road map to life and it never stops reminding me of that fact. I attended a new church today, well actually it’s not new but  it’s newly re-named. The Summit (formerly Second Baptist) has been around for fifty or so years and they are reaching deeper into the community and changing their views a bit. In the literal and spiritual sense.

I have been contemplating  and talking about leaving New Heights Christian Fellowship and finding a new church home. Not because of what NHCF has, but because of what they do not have. I enjoy Pastor Doug’s writing and his preaching style, I just feel I am in need of greater actions from myself and less verbiage. I want a church home that feeds your needs through a greater education process. Having an adult Sunday School  class is important to me and I have missed it over the last two years while attending NHCF.I had moved to NHCF because of their exceptional youth education program and have personally suffered in my own spiritual growth. So, I am seeking a new place to fellowship and new Church home and it’s time to let my actions speak louder than my words. As I indicated I’ve been talking about it for awhile and it’s time to take action. I’m not sure The Summit is the answer, but it’s worthy of a closer look.

My daughter already attends the Monday evening youth program at The Summit and I’ve never taken the time to investigate the offerings of the church as a whole. I did enjoy the atmosphere of the service and the friendliness of the congregation. It was rather ironic that the day I choose to attend was their first service under their new name and the sermon was in reference to the above mentioned scripture. I will attend again and see if this is where God is leading me to.

The Summit does have an adult Sunday School and a weekly Men’s Bible Study – both of which are very important to me. Funny, that I am blogging openly for the first time about my faith. I have made a personal commitment and I am seeking a stronger walk. I’ve danced with the issue in a non-invasive way in the past and blogged on several sermons but I believe the sermon today reached me and my actions do speak louder than words or in this case my actions are my words. This is my journey and search for the mountain top, quite possibly The Summit.

about dotme

I classify myself to be a practicing blogger, a college football junkie, a lover of sushi, a soccer dad and a student of social media!

I am pretty much a stay at home kind of guy but you will find me at church on Sundays, at most country concerts and on occasion at a local play or the symphony. You might find me at a Boise State football game and every once in awhile on one of my favorite golf courses.

I think I'm in desperate need of a new hobby. Any ideas?
